Internship

Internships at Hambleton Equine Clinic

When?

Our internships start in the autumn of each year. We invite applications for each year around January with a view to making the decision by the end of May, we post the opening on our job opportunities page when we are ready for applications.

About HEC and our caseload

Hambleton Equine Clinic (HEC) is an eleven vet specialist equine practice located in beautiful North Yorkshire housed in a state-of-the-art purpose built hospital building. Typically, we see approximately 3-4000 horses through the year and we have a wide range of horses and varied caseload. On average, we will operate on approximately 250-300 cases per year, the hospital is overseen by an RCVS registered specialist in equine surgery and Diplomate of the ACVS and ECVS. There is one advanced practitioner in orthopaedic surgery and an advanced practitioner in internal medicine. In addition to this we run a specialist referral ophthalmology service and dental service so interns will get exposed to a wide range of advanced cases. The practice also has a very busy reproduction arm and we are situated next door to a stud farm so there will also be significant exposure to this aspect of equine veteranary practice.

Facilities

HEC is fully equipped for diagnostic processes including radiography, ultrasonography, a Hallmarq standing MRI unit and nuclear scintigraphy. We have a spacious purpose-built equine theatre with knock down/recovery box, standing surgery and ICU boxes. Your internship will cover surgical, anaesthesia and medical key skills.

Why do this?

We believe that the internship will provide the successful applicant with all the necessary skills to go on to general practice and also offer a sound platform to advance into a residency program. It is a friendly team so we are looking for candidates who enjoy their work and will be enthusiastic members of our staff - it will be hard work but very rewarding.

Applications

It is important that we meet you before we consider applications. If at all possible we like our interns to have completed an externship here or spent some time seeing practice. If you are interested in that first step then please contact us on recruitment@hambleton-equine.co.uk

Applications should also be made to that email address, complete with a covering letter. Please keep your eye on the job opportunities page to see when we are asking for applications for our next intake.
